Harding University High School is proud to announce we will pilot a new interdisciplinary magnet program during the 2023-2024 school year. The Law, Social Justice, and Forensic Pathology Magnet Program will enhance our already comprehensive areas of studies to provide Harding University HS students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills while gaining genuine and meaningful real world experience.
The Law Concentration encompasses a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for successful careers in government, law enforcement, criminal justice, or national intelligence. A strong focus on legal principles and processes provides students with a solid foundation of the American legal system necessary to successfully integrate into the legal profession. During the 11th and 12th grade, students participating in the law concentration will actively engage in field experiences and internships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies such as local law firms, CMPD and NCSBI, and will register for dual registration courses at CPCC during their 12th grade year.
Students registered in the social justice concentration will embark on an interdisciplinary course of study designed to cultivate Harding University HS students into active citizens capable of effecting change within the larger community. Students will elevate their awareness of social equity issues, as well as local and global human rights issues by examining differing perspectives to generate an accurate personal viewpoint in order to promote equitable solutions. During the 11th and 12th grade years, students will actively engage in internships with local community and civic organizations in order to prepare them for professional positions in the justice system, public policy, or other fields relevant to the administration of justice. The social justice sequence culminates with students dually registered in CPCC their 12th grade year.
The forensic science concentration is rich in science and mathematics. Students work collaboratively in an interactive project-based environment to gain the necessary skills to enter the forensic science field. Lab and field experiments engage students using tactile simulations that provide them the tools to unravel evidence present at a crime scene. Students gain an understanding of how the work of forensic scientists are changing the global landscape while using state-of-the-art technology. During the 11th and 12th grade years, students participate in field experiences including job shadowing and internships in a variety of related forensic science professions including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Crime Lab, the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office, or a local medical hospital.
